
The Chief Facilities Officer leads Northern Arizona University’s planning, design, construction, maintenance and operational efforts for its main campus in Flagstaff and facility sites throughout the state of Arizona. The Chief Facilities Officer provides facilities management oversight; monitors all capital project execution; coordinates master planning and development; oversees the NAU Capital Improvement/Development Plans; and provides leadership in presenting project approval requests to the Arizona Board of Regents. This position reports to the Executive Vice President within the Office of the President.
Primary Job Responsibilities: Direct and manage Capital Assets and Services, a large, dynamic department that consists of the following divisions: Planning and Development; Resource Management (Utilities); Maintenance; Safety and Operations; Campus Supply; Capital Assets and Services Fiscal Operations; Capital Assets and Services Customer Service Center
• Represents NAU on facilities matters with the NAU administration, community and state agencies
• Coordinate and support the design, construction, maintenance and operations of all NAU facilities and infrastructure
• Direct and manage campus planning efforts, architectural design, engineering services, construction administration and contract procurement
• Oversee implementation of multiple construction projects in a cost effective and efficient manner to minimize project delays and budget overruns
• Establish fiscal controls for capital construction budgets, coordinate development of project cost estimates, monitor construction budgets and coordinate project cost control measures
• Provide leadership and oversight for NAU capital construction
• Provide leadership in developing strong intra-campus relationships (administrative and academic) and create a reporting structure that strives to build the following attributes: mutual respect, credibility, collaboration, trust and confidence
• Develop and implement programs, budgets and schedules for preventative maintenance, equipment replacement, energy conservation, sustainability, campus supply, customer service and compliance with safety regulations
• Direct and manage utility and central plant operations (water, reclaimed water, sewer, steam, chilled water)
• Responsible for coordinating the development of the relationship of new buildings and landscape to their built and natural environment and their functional and aesthetic contributions to the campus
• Establish priorities that protect the campus’ financial investment in its physical facilities and that provide a physical environment conducive to teaching, research and learning
• Administer a combined work force with separate functions that must meet the overall mission of providing a functional and efficient built environment to NAU
• Present to university vice presidents, the Arizona Board of Regents staff, Regents and legislators on capital program matters
• Serve on the President’s Cabinet
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• The ideal candidate will have additional education in business administration or related field, be an Arizona Professionally Registered Engineer (PE) or Architect (RA) or be able to become registered within six months of hire.
• Additional management and supervisory experience in planning, construction, maintenance, operations, and utilities.
• Experience communicating articulately on complex subjects and interacting with the public
• Demonstrated commitment to diverse populations
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture or related field; five years of progressive responsibility in relevant work history; five of which include supervisory experience; demonstrated management and supervisory experience in planning and construction; demonstrated budgetary and technical background. Experience managing multi-million dollar departments and management of work and budgets of a multi-project design and construction program. Must possess experience and demonstrated skills in written and oral communications.
Annual Salary: Depending on Experience.
