College of the Canyons, located 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles in the beautiful Santa Clarita Valley, is seeking a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Specialist III and Economic Development Specialist III to join our team.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Specialist III (Review Date July 17, 2008): Under general direction of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director and Assistant Director, the SBDC Specialist III performs a wide variety of complex specialized and responsible administrative and clerical functions in order to relieve supervisor of administrative and clerical detail. Performs other duties as assigned.

Economic Development Specialist III (Review Date 7/22/08):
Under the supervision of the Economic Development Executive Project Director for the Economic and Workforce Development Grant, performs conference and meeting support duties, specialized record management and clerical tasks in the Economic Development Office. Assists with event development, registrations, customer service, evaluations, program materials and scheduling functions as assigned by the Executive Project Director. Maintains computer records and tracking information. Performs other duties as assigned.

About the District: College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community college in the nation. More than 19,000 students attend classes here, surpassing 2011 enrollment projections five years ahead of schedule. Current projections indicate enrollment will top 20,000 students before the end of the decade.

Located on a modern 153.4-acre campus, the college offers classes during traditional fall and spring semesters, as well as substantial summer sessions and five-week winter intercessions. The college offers 58 AA/AS degree programs, as well as certificate programs and career-preparation certificates. The college operates on a healthy $216 million budget (2007-2008) and offers classes seven days a week. Over the years it has secured substantial amounts of state building funds and additional state funds through match programs with local bond monies. It has also secured millions of dollars in grants. All of this allows the college to engage in essential building programs and program development to accommodate its explosive growth. The District opened a second site on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country in the Fall of 2007.
